John Cage “In a Landscape”

My music video for John Cage’s “In a Landscape.” This video was featured in the Festival dell’architettura in Italy, in 2008, to represent the physical geography of a landscape.

It’s as if he synthesized the entire – in my opinion rather crappy and overrated – Romantic period into a single brilliant piece.

Wonderful song.. What album is it from?

Reminds me a little of Debussy’s Estampes for piano… drowsy, dreamy.

on pense à la douce mélancolie d’un erik satie ayant quitté les dieux de la grèce antique pour le soleil levant

This sounds very Debussy-esque for Cage.

haha! I like that, why not just enjoy the moment sometimes?

hmm from what i can understand, since the piece was actually published in 1948 it doesnt fall under the copyright act of 1976… so im guessing it should be alright. If you use a modern version which was recorded by someone after 1976 though, you would be in breach. But id still use it anyway, its very unlikely youll run into any trouble….

    Thanks for this courageous suggestion!
From internet, I came to know; works created after January 1, 1978 will be protected for the life of the composer (author) plus 70 years. But this piece of music was created in 1948. So I hope i can use it…no?? :)

  14. zeroblackstar says:

Just use it…the chances of someone asking you to take it down is minimal if your not going to be running a commercial site ;)

    Hi all,
    Greetings!
Ive been really trying to get this info for quite some time. But no luck!
Could anyone tell me how I can get the legal permission to use this amazing piece of music on my architecture portfolio website (non commercial)?
Id really appreciate any kind hearted soul’s response!
    Peace!

Great video and I really liked the piece at slower – than – usual tempo. But what happened to the end?!

  22. dburkenorway says:

Ditto Typhoonchaser’s comment. I inadvertently recorded a nasty argument between my parents in the 1970s while this piece played in the background. The music transformed the ugly encounter into something quite beautiful and melancholy. I lost track of the piece, but was reacquainted while listening to BBC 3′s Late Junction programe, May 19, hosted by Verity Sharp. Thank you.

  23. DannyDaWriter says:

    Where have you looked?

If you call a company like Boosey and Hawkes, they might have this in stock.

  24. typhoonchaserkompasu says:

    Really dreamy and beautiful…
