A compost bin can be made from a trash can by drilling holes every 6 to 10 inches on all sides, throwing in leave clippings, shredded newspaper, fruits and vegetables, and keeping the compost covered.     I have started a compost bin, but it is a large clear sided container. Must I cover the sides so sunlight does not shine through.?
